Business tax returns:

The three main types of business entities that require federal tax filings are S-corps, C-Corps and Partnerships. Below is a breakdown on each, as well as information on LLCs:

S-Corp:
Corporations that elect to pass corporate income, losses, deductions, and credits through to their shareholders for federal tax purposes. A corporation must file an S-Corp election within the first 75 days of the date of formation for the election to take effect in the first tax year. It is reported on Federal Form 1120-S and, if applicable, certain state schedules. We support all 50 states. This classification allows for decreased self-employment taxes on your individual return.

C-Corp:
A C-Corp is an independent legal entity owned by its shareholders. C-Corps pay taxes in its own right. It is reported on Federal Form 1120 and, if applicable, certain state schedules. We support all 50 states. C-Corps have advantages such as separate legal identity, limited liability for the owners and readily transferable shares.

Partnerships:
A Partnership is a formal arrangement by two or more parties to manage and operate a business and share both its profits and liabilities. It is reported on Federal Form 1065 and, if applicable, certain state schedules. We support all 50 states.

LLC:
A Limited Liability Company is a business structure allowed by state statue. We support all 50 states. Owners of an LLC are called members. For federal purposes, LLC’s file taxes on one of two forms: Form 1040 Schedule C (used for only one member) or Form 1065 (used for more than one member or partner).
